Callum is back from Africa, I’m back from Breslau, and Luis has just been enjoying time with his newborn Nele now around 5 or 6 weeks. Looks like an amazing designer from France, Maud, will be joining our core team. So minus 7 degrees, and things look good.

A big aspect of what we are doing moving into the new year is starting to explore an idea we’ve been developing called the quantified startup. As we start to push forward with our own internal product development in addition to client work, we want to be more and more focused on testing assumptions before building MVPs. Building MVPs before building products. In many cases avoiding building in favor of marketing testing.

The idea comes from the quantified self  movement to incorporate technology into data acquisition on aspects of a person’s daily life in terms of inputs, outputs and performance. We want to boil it down for startups. What are the numbers, how can we cost efficiently test for real interest or product market fit?

Everyone always thinks they have amazing ideas that most certainly will go viral. We’re not immune to this mind-set either. More and more though, we want test the metrics, measure inputs and outputs, evaluate performance of an idea pre-build. The quantified startup.
